Odense Port is planning a new large logistics business area on Funen, Odense Dry Port. The project is being carried out in collaboration with both Odense Municipality and Faaborg-Midtfyn Municipality, and citizens are now invited to contribute ideas and suggestions.
What is Odense Dry Port?
Odense Dry Port will be a brand new logistics business area covering approximately 110 hectares, which will accommodate warehousing and logistics companies as well as smaller manufacturing companies. The area will also support activities in the port area at Munkebo, where there is currently high demand for space from offshore energy companies, among others.
With the Dry Port, companies that work with the large production companies at Odense Port will be able to find space nearby, while the quay area at Munkebo can be reserved for the most space-intensive activities.
Why here?
The area is located near Årslev (approx. 20 km from Odense) between the Svendborg motorway, Svendborgvej and the railway, and stretches across both Odense and Faaborg-Midtfyn municipalities. The project requires the area to be rezoned from rural to urban, and a new local plan and municipal plan supplement to be drawn up.
What happens now?
The two municipalities have now initiated the process:
- Politicians in both Odense and Faaborg-Midtfyn municipalities have decided to invite ideas and suggestions from citizens.
- This phase will typically last four weeks, and a joint public meeting will be held on September 23, 2025, where all interested parties can hear more about the plans.
- After the hearing, all input will be collected and evaluated. Some proposals may be incorporated into the upcoming local plan, while others may be rejected.
What does this mean for citizens?
It is important for the Port of Odense and the two municipalities that the process is open and conducted in dialogue with citizens. Everyone will have the opportunity to express their views and share their thoughts, ideas, and concerns.
When the local plan is later drafted, it will also be subject to public consultation, giving citizens another chance to have their say.
What is the next step?
– The official consultation process will begin in September 2025.
– Citizens can submit ideas and suggestions and participate in the public meeting.
– Based on input from citizens, businesses, and other stakeholders, work will begin on drafting the actual local plan for Odense Dry Port.
The plan for Odense Dry Port is still in its early stages, the master plan for the area is in place, and we expect to be able to break ground at the end of 2026. Right now, it’s all about listening to citizens and gathering ideas before final decisions are made.
